Apple and Nike are teaming up for an exclusive Apple Card promo that starts today and runs into October. When shopping at Nike stores, online, and in-app, Apple Card holders can earn an impressive 6% cash back on their purchases when using Apple Pay.
Apple Card Now Offers 3% Cash Back on Nike Purchases via Apple Pay
Apple Card generally offers 1% cashback on all purchases, 2% on all Apple Pay purchases, and 3% on purchases made with Apple itself. The company, however, has special deals in place with certain retailers to give buyers 3% cashback. These merchants include ones such as Nike, Panera Bread, Walgreens, T-Mobile, Exxon, Uber, and Ace Hardware.
The first brand to join the list was Uber, which was added when the card launched on Aug. 20, 2019. Cardholders can earn 3% cash back when using Apple Pay and their Apple Card to pay for Uber rides and Uber Eats purchases.
On Sept. 13, 2019, Walgreens and pharmacy chain Duane Reade joined the category. Eligible purchases made via Apple Pay earn 3% cash back, including prescriptions and purchases made through the Walgreens app and on Walgreens.com.
T-Mobile is currently the only mobile service provider partnering with Apple Card, but the deal comes with a catch. Cardholders can only get the 3% cash back reward when they use their Apple Card via the Apple Pay app to make in-store purchases or pay their monthly bill at T-Mobile.
Walgreens, and by extension Duane Reade which the drug store chain purchased in 2010, partnered with Apple Card in September, offering the 3% cash back credit card benefit when using Apple Pay or when swiping the card, if Apple Pay was unavailable.
Note that the Apple Credit card does not offer loss or damage protection. The Costco CitiBank Visa card does. So the 1% more cash back from Apple doesn't seem worth it especially since the 3% is only from a limited list of retailers.
You can generally return purchases made using Apple Pay by providing the receipt. When the merchant processes your refund, it goes back to your payment card automatically. If you don't have the receipt or the merchant asks for more information, you can provide the payment card-specific Device Account Number.
If you are among the more than 110 million people in the U.S. who have an iPhone, the Apple card may make sense for you, too. I applied for it earlier this year, attracted by its cash back rewards, financial wellness tools, and lack of an annual fee.
Whether you find the same usefulness in the Apple Card ultimately depends a lot on how committed you are to staying in the Apple ecosystem. If you are not an Apple user or loyalist, then there are cash back cards out there that will offer you greater value for no annual fees.
These cash back rewards are applied to your account every day, and you can decide whether to use your Daily Cash to make purchases, send money to friends or family or make a one-time payment toward your Apple Card balance.
According to 9to5Mac, the Apple Card has a basic three-tiered cashback incentive system. The Apple credit card offers 2% cash back on all Apple Pay purchases and 1% cash back on purchases made using the physical titanium card. Select merchants provide a higher 3% rate, which applies to all Apple hardware and service purchases. 2ff7e9595c
